The Brooklyn Nets' bench, led by Cam Thomas' game-high 24 points, proved to be too much for the Milwaukee Bucks, as the Nets held on for a 118-104 victory on Monday night at Barclays Center.
Thomas, who entered the game averaging just 10.9 points per game, erupted for 17 points in the second half to help the Nets pull away. He shot an efficient 9-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range.
"Cam was fantastic tonight," Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said. "He came in and gave us a huge lift off the bench. He was aggressive, he made shots, and he played with a lot of confidence."
In addition to Thomas, the Nets received solid contributions from Seth Curry (17 points), Kyrie Irving (16 points, 8 assists), and Kevin Durant (15 points, 9 rebounds). Nicolas Claxton added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets.
For the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jrue Holiday added 19 points, and Khris Middleton chipped in 16.
The Bucks made a late push in the fourth quarter, cutting the Nets' lead to just four points with less than three minutes remaining. However, the Nets held on, thanks in part to clutch free throw shooting from Irving and Curry.
"We knew they were going to make a run at us," Durant said. "But we stayed focused and we executed down the stretch."
The Nets' bench has been a major factor in their recent success. In their last five games, the Nets' bench has averaged 46.8 points per game. This depth has been crucial in helping the Nets overcome injuries to key players, such as Ben Simmons and TJ Warren.
"Our bench has been amazing," Vaughn said. "They've given us a lot of energy and production all season long. They're a big reason why we're in a good position right now."
The Nets' victory over the Bucks was a testament to their depth and resilience. Thomas' stellar performance off the bench was a major factor in the win, and the Nets' bench as a whole has been playing at a high level all season. As the Nets continue their push for a playoff berth, their bench will be crucial to their success.
The Nets will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Chicago Bulls at Barclays Center.
